Wisconsin's Driftless Artists
Wisconsin's Driftless Artists
They call the SW portion of Wisconsin the Driftless Area because it was untouched by glaciers allowing the landscape to stay lush and rolling. The region has attracted a wide range of artists that live and work in dreamy cottages, barns and old schools in towns like Spring Green, Baraboo and Mineral Point where they create everything from fine furniture and sculptures to amazing pottery and paintings.
I’ve been visiting the area the past several years and have made friends with the owners of a wonderful gallery in Mineral Point called Brewer Pottery that shows some of my work. It’s also become the headquarters for the Annual Fall Art Tour where visitors can tour the countryside and see some of these spectacular spaces and purchase the artist’s work.
I’ve started a pro bono project for the tour taking portraits of the artists and it’s become a fascinating adventure. Just me and a couple of cameras spending time with incredibly creative people making portraits.. Doesn’t get any better!
